I am an insurance professional in Alabama and Georgia. I am concerned by those who would consider mortgage insurance a good policy for anyone. I have discussed this with various professionals in both the insurance and realty markets. Both groups agree that mortgage protection is nowhere near the flexibility opportunity term life provides.
Think about it...you and spouse are working hard to provide a home fro your family. You plan on a long happy life together and seeing that mortgage finally paid off. The odds are in your favor longevity-wise that you will make that date. Now, let's say you get half way through your mortgage and tragedy strikes a homeowner leaving one person to support a household. It boils down to this:
- Would you rather have a policy that pays off the house? OR
- Would you rather your client have OPTIONS? If a term policy is purchased properly, the remaining spouse can use life insurance funds for final expenses necessary, fix up the house and sell it...pay it off...invest to help pay monthly bills like power and water.
Mortgage protection plans are a worthless opportunity to sell someone a cheap policy of little to no value. If you help help homeowners and families, get a term policy for them that makes sense and leaves options on the table for life and not just a paid off house. There is so much more to life than just that and we have to help our clients plan for that.

Sincerely,

Gene Ramsay

I'm posting this note to see if anyone would be interested in some referral business. Win-Share Business Services works with businesses averaging over 100 employees, helping them to correct their Worker's Comp premiums, get a refund and control the premiums going forward. We don't sell insurance but I know that our clients may be ideal prospects for those of you that offer employee benefits. One thing that we have found is that if a business offers voluntary disability insurance to their employees, they have fewer Work Comp claims and therefore my clients would be great clients for your business. I know that you pay referral fees to brokers, and possibly we can work something out that would make it worth my while to refer business to you. More Importantly, I can show you how you can use our Work Comp review to easily get in front of large businesses that neither of us are doing business with yet, to sell your services and earn additional commission for selling them on our service. If you are interested, feel free to contact me at johnc@winshareservices.com. Have a great day. John

Hi, everyone. We're here in Atlanta keeping to our knitting and trying to make sense of it all. I'm going to invite several younger guys in our office to join the forum. On a side note: I've been spending the last several weeks trying to explain to them what cold calling doesn't work, but their "stuck in the 1987 mentality" manager won't "let" them off the hook. :-( See 'ya later:

I am new to this group. I've been in financial services for several years. I use a program now with clients that I believe all of you would be interested in knowing about. It will add tremendous value, not only to your lives, but to the lives of your clients. It will also provide client loyalty and referrals. If you use this program with your clients, you can distinguish yourself from the other financial professionals and add substantial new income to your business. Do something really special for your clients. You can look at my profile and blog for more details, as well as my website. Let me know what you think.

I admire all of you for being in the insurance business. I got licensed about 3 years ago in Life and Health, later in the P&C. I had some success in L&H but never even got started in the other. It's a tough business and I finally decided to bail out. I've always been in sales but for some reason, it just wasn't for me. It's not the insurance business, it was me, I'll own up to that fact!

I am new to life insurance but have been in sales for over 20 years. Regarding insurance marketing: Some ideas I've read so far are interesting but I would like more detail. Can I see a the "nice" flyer you are handing out b2b or the one you use through realty offices? What is the best method to invite qualified people to a dinner seminar? If a news paper add was used, what did it say?

Does anyone else suffer from a fear of the phone? Unfortunately I am in a situation where I am going to have to start cold calling. The only problem is that I am scared to death. I have talked to some people recently that have said they get anywhere from 25-50 calls a year from insurance agents. How do you separate yourself from that many people? One thing I am going to try is to focus on some niche programs / markets. In theory there should be much less competition for these accounts since there is only a handful of companies that insure these types of businesses. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks.
